Some of the things that this course includes:

  1. An overview of how the scriptures came to us.
  2. A brief presentation of God’s story and his interaction with humankind as described in the Bible.
  3. A primer of biblical interpretation.
  4. The importance of the scripture as the inspired word of God as a guide for our faith and practice.
  5. Best practices for meaningful ongoing biblical engagement will be modelled with a view to the spiritual formation of the minister as well as a source for preaching and teaching.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Know and understand (head-educated):
    • both the divine and human roles in the writing and transmitting scriptures.
    • the main story and message of the Bible.
    • the difference between the various genres of biblical writing.
  2. Be able to (hand-equipped):
    • provide a coherent overview of the origins of the Bible and a summary of its story.
    • study the scripture with increased confidence for personal growth and
    ministry engagement.
    • prepare a basic presentation of a Bible passage for preaching or teaching
  3. Develop an appreciation of and value for (heart-enriched):
    • a deep love for the Bible and being convinced of its important place in the daily life of the believer.
    • the illumination of the Holy Spirit for understanding scriptures.
    • the importance of appropriate use of Scriptures for authentic ministry.
